To reach his second first divorce hearing, Eminem had to go under ground.
According to the Detroit News, the Grammy winner entered a Detroit-area courthouse Thursday by underground tunnel and then took a secure elevator up to the second floor where proceedings were to commence regarding his pending divorce from estranged wife Kim Mathers.
Eminem filed for the split in April, less than three months after remarrying her.
The on-again, off-again high school sweethearts wed for the first time in 1999 and divorced "for good" in 2001, with the 33-year-old rap star citing "a breakdown in the marriage relationship" as the reason. They supposedly brushed aside all those hard feelings, however, to reconcile and retie the knot Jan. 14.
What went on in Macomb Circuit Court in front of Court Referee David Elias Thursday was kept under wraps, but both husband and wife were present for the nearly hour-long hearing.
Mathers took the more public route, entering the court through its main entrance, and was later escorted out by sheriff's deputies to her waiting Lincoln Navigator, per the Detroit News.
She filed in May for joint legal custody of her and Eminem's 10-year-old daughter, Hailie Jade, requesting child support as well as an unspecified amount of monetary compensation for herself, including mortgage payments for the home the sometimes-happy couple shared in Clinton Township, Michigan.
A settlement conference has been scheduled for Sept. 19. Circuit Judge Antonio Viviano has set an Aug. 25 deadline for both sides to complete all depositions, pension evaluations and other legal procedures that will help move this thing along.
Most of the significant events in Eminem's life seem to have occurred in Detroit, with his two divorces being no exception. His strong link to the city was chronicled in 8 Mile and could possibly influence the "Lose Yourself" rapper's next film project--starring in an updated version of the old CBS show Have Gun Will Travel. Variety reported last week that filmmakers are considering a storyline adjustment to make it take place in the Motor City.
