LePaparazzi News Updates

Television producer Aaron Spelling arrives at a benefit on April 22, 2005, in Los Angeles. Spelling suffered a stroke over the weekend at his Holmby Hills estate in Los Angeles and he's being treated at home, his publicist said Wednesday, June 21, 2006 .

A private burial service was held Sunday for TV mogul Aaron Spelling at Hillside Memorial Park in Culver City, Calif.

In attendance were Spelling's widow Candy, son Randy, daughter Tori and brother Danny, publicist Kevin Sasaki tells the Associated Press. Spelling, who produced hits ranging from The Mod Squad in the '60s to today's 7th Heaven, passed away Friday in his mansion near Beverly Hills. He was 83.

The cause of death was complications from a stroke he had suffered June 18.

Our extreme sadness and grief is comforted by the overwhelming number of heartfelt calls we have received," Candy and Randy Spelling said in a statement released earlier by Sasaki.

"We are truly grateful for the outpouring of love and sympathy expressed by so many friends and colleagues who knew Aaron. Our family is truly appreciative of everyone's love and support."

Actors who worked with Spelling also shared their memories. "He was undoubtedly the greatest producer of popular television during the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s," Joan Collins, who starred in Spelling's hit Dynasty, said Monday.

"I shall always be grateful to him for insisting I play the role of Alexis Carrington on Dynasty." Heather Locklear, whose mid-series casting in Spelling's Melrose Place gave the show renewed buzz, said Monday she was sad to hear of Spelling's death.

"He called me his lucky penny," she said, "but I am the lucky one because he graced me with his encouragement and talent." Spelling's actress daughter Tori made peace with her father before his death.

"I'm grateful I recently had the opportunity to reconcile with my father," she told PEOPLE, "and most grateful we had the chance to tell each other we loved one another before he passed away.

"It's a true blessing to have had a parent that loved me unconditionally. He had a heart as big as his talent and today, along with many others, I mourn his loss. He was a great man and even better father."
