The Blair Divorce Project
Selma Blair and Ahmet Zappa
Selma Blair is no longer over the Moon Unit for rocker Ahmet Zappa. The couple have announced they are splitting up after two and a half years of marriage.
Blair, who turns 34 on Friday, filed for divorce Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, citing "irreconcilable differences," but the Cruel Intentions actress apparently holds no ill will.
"Selma and Ahmet have decided to divorce but love each other very much and will continue to be close friends," the couple's spokesman, Troy Nankin, said in a statement. This was the first marriage for both.
The duo made it official Jan. 24, 2004, after a whirlwind six-month courtship. They said their "I do's" at Carrie Fisher's Beverly Hills pad in front of Zappa sibs Moon Unit and Dweezil, with the bride dressed in Karl Lagerfeld-designed white satin and her music-minded mate suited up in black.
The ceremony was so romantic, beautiful, elegant, a little goofy--exactly like them," a wedding guest told People at the time.
It sounds as if that quirky energy is being put to good use in Blair and Zappa's professional lives, at least.
The 32-year-old Zappa, for one, has funneled his creative juices toward writing. His debut novel, The Monstrous Memoirs of a Mighty McFearless--think Harry Potter-Lemony Snicket hybrid--is due out July 25.
Blair wrapped production earlier this year on the Ed Burns-directed indie drama Purple Violets, costarring Burns and Debra Messing, and the comedy The Night of the White Pants, with Tom Wilkinson and Nick Stahl.
The busy gal is also signed up for the Ray Liotta-David Arquette comedy (now there's a pair), Chlorine. There had better be a swimming pool involved, or that's a very misleading title.
