A tearful Britney Spears opened up to Matt Lauer on Thursday's Today show as she defended herself as a mother, asked to be left alone by paparazzi and suggested she may have to start her own magazine to counter reports about her marriage.
Speaking to Spears, 24, in her home for the taped interview, Lauer flashed a series of tabloids featuring cover stories about the singer and her supposedly embattled marriage to Kevin Federline, 28.
"You know what? I need to create my own magazine," said Spears, although she admitted the tabloids are very good at the job they do. But, she insisted, "I need to come up with my own and say the real deal."
Shown a cover describing 28-year-old U.S. Naval Academy graduate Perry Taylor as the new man in her life, Spears said, "Oh, no. That's my security guard." So, Lauer asked, is Federline still living at home with Spears? "Oh, definitely, working very hard," she said. But is he living on the main floor – and not in the basement, as one tabloid reported?
Yes, of course," said Spears, who is pregnant with her second child with Federline. "He helps me. He has to. I'm an emotional wreck right now. Not in a bad way – just, you know, I'll start laughing hysterically, and then I'll just start crying.
It's my hormones, so it's nice to have my husband there to keep me company." As for the now-notorious photograph of her driving with 9-month-old son Sean Preston on her lap, Spears, who grew up in Louisiana, said she was only in the car for about five minutes, and that the practice is something of a tradition. "I did it with my dad. ... We're country."
Still, Lauer pressed, the picture caused speculation that Spears is a bad mother. "That's America for you," she said with a shrug. "It makes you very strong."
Other recent press reports have hit her hard, however. "Oh, I've wept, yeah," she said. "I've definitely wept, with the world – how judgmental they are. But I know what kind of mom I am." The real tears flowed when Lauer asked Spears what she would want to say to the paparazzi.
At times covering her face with her hands, she replied, "I would just say, 'You have babies at home, and you have a wife, and if you don't, you have to realize that we're people and we just need privacy and we need our respect and these are just things you have to have as a human being.' " The conclusion of Lauer's interview will appear Thursday night on Dateline NBC.

Kate Moss Won't Face Drug Charges
Moss; the Daily Mirror cover
Kate Moss will not face charges over her alleged drug use caught on film in London last year, Britain's Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said Thursday. In September, London's Daily Mirror published stills from a video of Moss, 32, apparently snorting cocaine in a recording studio with her then-boyfriend, admitted drug user Pete Doherty.
After the photos were published, Moss apologized for her actions and checked into an Arizona rehab facility.
In January, she was questioned by police but not arrested. Still, the CPS said it was unable to determine what kind of drug Moss and others were using, Reuters reports.
"The film footage provides an absolutely clear indication that Ms. Moss was using controlled drugs and providing them to others," said Rene Barclay, the CPS's London director of serious casework.
"However, in the absence of any forensic evidence, or direct eyewitness evidence about the substance in question, its precise nature could not be established.
Ms. Moss declined to provide any explanation when interviewed, and the direct eyewitnesses also declined to provide evidence."
Burberry, H&M and Chanel canceled contracts with Moss after the publication of the incriminating photos, but she has since rebuilt her career, signing on to appear in ads for Nikon, Virgin Mobile, Calvin Klein and other clients.

Jessica Simpson & Nick Lachey Divorce Final on June 17?
Jessica Simpson
Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey fans hopes that the couple may reconcile are fading fast. A report now sets the date for when the divorce is finalized as June 17 by Life & Style Weekly.
Though both parties have reportedly had second thoughts, Nick seems to really have moved forward and is having no trouble with the Hollywood dating scene.

Jessica was linked to a number of men early in the split including Adam Levine, Dane Cook and Jude Law but none of those were ever confirmed and at best they were short lived.
"Jessica's learning that most men aren't as commitment as Nick was," an insider tells Star Magazine.
"She's seen that there aren't many eligible men who are serious boyfriend material. Most men she meets look at her as an easy score or a ditzy blonde," the source continues.
Ouch!

The report notes that Nick wanted a trial separation or counseling, but ultimately it was Jessica's decision file for divorce.
They separated in November and released this statement:
"After three years of marriage, and careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways," the statement says. "This is the mutual decision of two people with an enormous amount of respect and admiration for each other. We hope that you respect our privacy during this difficult time."

They married in a lavish ceremony on Oct. 26, 2002, in Austin, Texas.
Their divorce may be an anti-climactic event on June 17, 2006.
