Stars Support Julia Roberts At Broadway Debut

LePaparazzi News

Julia Roberts

Julia Roberts made her Broadway debut Wednesday night in Three Days of Rain and several of her celebrity pals came out to support her. "I'm so excited," Oprah Winfrey told reporters before dashing into the theater.

James Gandolfini, Diane Sawyer, Dave Matthews, Marcia Gay Harden, Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon also attended. Hundreds of fans also packed outside the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in Manhattan.

Roberts stars alongside Paul Rudd (Clueless) and Bradley Cooper (Alias) in the revival of Richard Greenberg's play, which is mostly sold-out for its 12-week run. Unfortunately, critics panned the show.

The New York Daily News said, "As mesmerizing as she is on screen, she has surprisingly little stage presence."

Jessica Simpson Wears Her Ring Again

Jessica Simpson

Jessica Simpson has resumed wearing her wedding ring – though on a chain around her neck. "You can still move on and have the memories," a source close to the pop star tells PEOPLE, noting that Simpson, 25, still speaks to her soon-to-be-ex-husband, Nick Lachey, 32. "Nick will always be an important part of her life."

Also on the chain with her 3.5 carat bauble are two crosses – one that her parents gave to her, and another that is identical to a cross worn by both her sister, Ashlee and mother, Tina. The jewelry pieces represent "a combination of things that are important to her," says the source.

So, what does Nick think? "He wants Jessica to be happy," a Lachey source tells PEOPLE. "But they've both moved on." As for the new main man in Simpson's life, the singer has turned to her pal and hairstylist Ken Pavés since her split from Lachey.

Pavés joined Simpson as she lobbied for Operation Smile in Washington, D.C., in March and again at an awards show in Australia in April. There's a precedent for this platonic stylist-star relationship.

Think Jennifer Aniston's postbreakup friendship with longtime stylist Chris McMillan; Kate Moss enlisting stylist James Brown for shopping and meals out after Pete Doherty; Gisele Bündchen partying with Harry Josh, even before the Leo breakup.

Ace Out on American Idol

Ace Young

Ace Young was cut from American Idol Wednesday night after making his fourth appearance in the bottom three. "I've had a blast," the 25-year-old from Denver said after Ryan Seacrest delivered the news. Ironically, Young's song choice that led to his ouster was "That's All." Simon Cowell had praised Young's performance on Tuesday night, calling his rendition of the standard "charming" – even if his voice was "a little nasally." Rounding out the bottom three were Chris Daughtry, 26, and Paris Bennett, 17.

Wednesday's elimination show featured a performance by guest coach Rod Stewart, who sang the tune made famous by Fred Astaire: "The Way You Look Tonight." Six contestants remain on the show, which wraps up on May 25.

Sources: Roth on Way Out As Radio Host

Former Van Halen singer David Lee Roth poses for a photograph at a gala following the Tony Awards on June 6, 2004, in New York.Roth's run as morning radio host is about done. It appears raunchy satellite radio stars Opie and Anthony will replace him on seven CBS Radio stations, according to sources Thursday, April 20, 2006.

No surprise: David Lee Roth's run as morning radio host is about done. Big surprise: It appears raunchy satellite radio stars Opie and Anthony will replace him on seven CBS Radio stations.

A deal was in the works to dump the ex-Van Halen singer's ratings-deprived program with shock jocks Greg "Opie" Hughes and Anthony Cumia, according to two people with knowledge of the deal. They spoke Thursday on condition of anonymity pending an official announcement of the agreement next week.

Opie and Anthony were banished from terrestrial radio in 2002 oddly enough by their new boss, CBS Radio after airing a live account of listeners having sex in New York's St. Patrick's Cathedral. CBS Radio was then known as Infinity Broadcasting.

Opie and Anthony resurfaced on XM in October 2004. The satellite radio provider has more than 6.5 million subscribers, with the Opie and Anthony show one of the most popular programs on its 170 channels.

XM will now syndicate the program to the stations in New York and six other markets, with three hours of the program airing on the CBS Radio stations, the people familiar with the deal said. XM will simultaneously broadcast that portion of the show, along with another two hours of exclusive O&A, they said.

A spokeswoman at CBS Radio declined to comment on the report, as did a spokesman for XM.
Roth's radio career began in January, when he replaced Howard Stern on the CBS stations. But reviews were poor and Roth fought with management over the show's format, putting the show on the skids less than four months into its run.

Roth, during one angry on-air rant, predicted the show could be yanked before May.
The move marks a shift in the dynamic between terrestrial and satellite radio. In the past, satellite raided terrestrial radio for big-name hosts such as Opie and Anthony or Stern. Now, the seven FM stations will rely on a syndicated satellite program.

In addition to the Free-FM station in New York, Opie and Anthony will reportedly air on WBCN-FM in Boston, WYSP-FM in Philadelphia, WRKZ-FM in Pittsburgh, WNCX-FM in Cleveland, WPBZ-FM in West Palm Beach, Fla., and KLLI-FM in Dallas.

Stern, who engaged in a lengthy on-air feud with Opie and Anthony, is in his first year of broadcasting for Sirius Satellite Radio. O&A will now fill in his old time slot.

'Shield' Producer Scott Brazil Dies at 50

This undated photo provided by FX Networks shows Emmy-winning producer-director Scott Brazil at work on the set of a television show. Brazil, whose television shows included "The Shield" and "Hill Street Blues," died Monday, April 17. He was 50. Brazil died at Sherman Oaks Hospital of respiratory failure due to Lou Gehrig's disease and lyme disease complications, FX Networks spokesman John Solberg said Wednesday.

Emmy-winning producer-director Scott Brazil, whose television shows included "The Shield" and "Hill Street Blues," has died. He was 50.

Brazil died Monday of respiratory failure due to Lou Gehrig's disease and lyme disease complications, FX Networks spokesman John Solberg said Wednesday.

Brazil was executive producer of "The Shield," the first original drama series on FX Networks, and he directed 11 episodes. Brazil and "Shield" creator and executive producer Shawn Ryan won the 2002 Golden Globe for drama series.

Although his condition had worsened, Brazil used a motorized wheelchair to go about his duties as "The Shield" producer-director, Ryan said.

"He worked (last) Thursday, working to the very last day, talking to the writers, doing casting and prepping our next episode," Ryan said Wednesday. "That's what made all this so stunning for us. We're kind of shocked."

Shooting on the set of "The Shield" continued on schedule Tuesday in tribute to Brazil.
"I think everyone would have felt lost if they went home and had to deal with this and had nothing to do," Ryan said.

"This was really one of the great guys of Hollywood," he added.

Brazil also directed episodes of "Nip/Tuck," "Grey's Anatomy," "CSI: Miami," "NCIS," "JAG," "Nash Bridges" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." He also directed the pilot of "Playmakers" for ESPN.
As a producer on NBC's "Hill Street Blues," Brazil won two Emmys for drama series in 1983 and 1984, and a Golden Globe in 1983 for TV drama series.

Brazil graduated from the University of Southern California's Annenberg School of Journalism and was a member of the Directors Guild and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; daughter Lindsay, 15; son Mark, 11; his father David; his mother Barbara; and brother Griff. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the television academy's Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre in North Hollywood.
