Star Hair: Get the Look!

What Not to Wear's hair guru Nick Arrojo tells you how to style your tresses like Jessica, Sienna and eight other celebs. By Serena Kappes

JESSICA ALBA

How to get the look:
1. Apply volumizing mousse all over, and – using a medium-sized round barrel brush – blow-dry smooth.

2. Wrap hair sections around the brush, and blow-dry for five seconds. Blast with cool air to set and unravel.

3. Twist the pieces together to "create loopy, bouncy waves," says Arrojo.

Bonus tip: You can also use hot Velcro rollers – but be sure to cool hair before removing them. "Otherwise, you'll lose the bounce," he says. Finish with hairspray.

SIENNA MILLER

How to get the look:
1. Use a volumizing product to blow-dry and tousle hair with fingers.

2. In the jar, blow-dry a small amount of pomade until it liquefies. Dab onto palm and apply "to create separation and texture," says Arrojo.

3. For a "more carefree look," use a curling iron to loosely loop the ends.

Bonus tip: "Add extensions to give your hair pieces of length in areas," he says.

JESSICA SIMPSON

How to get the look:
1. Apply mousse and blow-dry with your hands, then scrunch it under a diffuser.

2. Use a curling iron to emphasize the loops. But "don't do every curl – you'll achieve a look that's too set," says Arrojo.

3. Blow-dry the front with your fingers, and "get a little bit of a flick" with the curling iron. Finish with a detailing mist or high-shine hairspray.

Bonus tip: Lightly tease the crown of your hair with a bristle brush. "That'll give you nice body and it'll stay the night."

HALLE BERRY

How to get the look:
1. For naturally curly hair, work mousse and a small amount of curling cream throughout.

2. Take small sections, about an inch in diameter, and twist with your finger. "You will create amazing ringlets," says Arrojo.

3. Allow hair to dry naturally. When dry, turn your head upside-down and spritz with a non-aerosol spray.

Bonus tip: Don't touch your hair until it's dry, otherwise it'll frizz.

NATALIE PORTMAN

How to get the look:
1. Use styling cream or gel and apply all over.

2. Blow-dry hair with your fingers.

3. While blow-drying, lift at the roots to create some height.

Bonus tip: Rub a small amount of styling wax into your hands and manipulate the hair away from the face, and tuck behind the ears. "It gives you a sophisticated, polished look," says Arrojo.

JULIA ROBERTS

How to get the look:
1. Use a volumizing mouse or styling spray.

2. Let hair dry naturally or blow-dry with a diffuser.

3. With a large-barrel curling iron, roll sections, leaving at least 4 inches from the root. "You'll achieve a natural texture with some finished pieces on top," says Arrojo.

Bonus tip: To blend straight bangs with the waves, "make sure they don't have any definitive parting," he says.

MADONNA

How to get the look:
1. Blow-dry hair smooth, but be sure not to lift at roots. "The look is very flat with a big flick," says Arrojo

2. Apply a spritz of hairspray and, with a curling iron or hot brush, roll the front of hair back. "That will give you extra hold."

Bonus tip: "The lower the parting, the more sexy and dramatic it will look."

CHARLIZE THERON

How to get the look:
1. Blow-dry hair with a flat paddle brush.

2. Apply a thermal protector and use a flat iron to make hair smooth.

3. Spritz shine spray into your hands and finger through hair. "That will bring out the separation and texture," says Arrojo.

Bonus tip: For fine hair, use a volumizing product to add body or a blow-drying spray to prep the hair.

DEBRA MESSING

How to get the look:
1. Apply a thermal protector and blow-dry hair smooth.

2. With a curling iron, take 10 sections of hair around the head and curl in at the root. Allow hair to cool.

3. Take a small amount of de-frizzing serum, turn your head over and run fingers through hair or use a vent brush to break down the curl.

Bonus tip: On one side, curl three strands toward your face for a "nice curved scoop," says Arrojo. Finish with hairspray.

NICOLE KIDMAN

How to get the look:
1. Apply a holding product (such as mousse) to damp hair and twist large sections down to the root and clip.

2. Allow hair to dry naturally and spritz with a non-aerosol hairspray. Take out clips and shake out curls.

3. Pull back hair on both sides and clip it, then pull out tendrils to frame the face.

Bonus tip: If curls are too loopy, comb your fingers through them. "It will create a softer look," says Arrojo. "It's like teasing without a brush or a comb."
