Nick Lachey
Nick Lachey is now offering a more thorough peek inside his former marriage to Jessica Simpson than viewers were allowed to see on their Newlyweds reality series.
"Jessica and I began playing these parts even when we were by ourselves," he says of their roles. "It became a really blurred line.
There was a question about what truly was our reality." Lachey, 32, makes the comments to Rolling Stone in a new interview, excerpts of which were released to USA Today.
Among Lachey's more startling revelations: "I'll tell you how I knew my marriage was over: I was told."
As for lingering doubts about his three-year-marriage, Lachey admits: "I don't know if there were other men. But if she did cheat, it was the result of something bigger, not the reason we didn't work.
Sometimes I think it would be easier if I had just walked in the house and found her in bed with a guy. That would be clear-cut. End of story.
I wouldn't have to deal with the uncertainty of adultery." Lachey also lifts the veil on his feelings about ex-father-in-law (and Jessica's manager) Joe Simpson.
"I don't pretend to understand Joe," he says. "I don't know if he ever liked me. To this day I couldn't say. It was painful. Do I think Joe drove a rift between us? No. Was he an influence in our marriage? Absolutely."
In related news, the music publication also says that singer-songwriter Adam Green has a big new hit in Germany called "Jessica," described as an unflattering ditty about Nick's ex. Its lyrics reportedly mention her "fraudulent smile" and "injections of cortisone."

Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes Welcome New Baby
Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise
Word of the world's most famous silent birth has finally been heard. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, the public lovebirds dubbed TomKat by the media, "joyously welcomed the arrival" of a baby girl Tuesday, said Cruise spokesman Arnold Robinson.
The girl, named Suri, came into the world at 7 pounds, 7 ounces and 20 inches long. Her name has its origins in Hebrew, meaning "princess," or in Persian, meaning "red rose," Robinson said in a statement.
"Both mother and daughter are doing well," the publicist said.
Details about the birth weren't disclosed, but it had been planned to take place as a silent procedure under the tenants of the Church of Scientology, to which both Cruise and Holmes belong.
Scientologists believe words spoken during times of pain are recorded by the "reactive mind" and can cause potential problems for both mother and child.
Suri's birth, which happened in Los Angeles although the exact location was not disclosed, generated a huge noise among the world of Cruise-Holmes watchers.
"Yay, yay, yay," said actress and fellow Scientologist Kirstie Alley. "Bring her over so I can meet her."
"Tonight Show" host Jay Leno announced the birth to his studio audience.
"I just got a phone call that Tom Cruise had a baby girl about two minutes ago. No joke," he said.
Suri is the 27-year-old actress' first child. Cruise, 43, has an adopted daughter and son Isabella, 13, and Connor, 11 with ex-wife Nicole Kidman.
In a strange twist of fate, Suri was born on the same day actress Brooke Shields gave birth to her daughter, Grier Hammond Henchy. Shields and Cruise had a public spat last year after he criticized the actress for taking antidepressants following the birth of her first child.
Cruise, echoing the position of Scientology, said depression can be treated with exercise and vitamins rather than drugs. Shields dismissed the actor's remarks as a "ridiculous rant."
At the Beverly Hills home of Cruise and Holmes on Tuesday, about a dozen reporters and photographers stood outside the gates and a steady stream of tourists and curious passers-by stopped to take a look.
Some visitors left baby gifts outside the gate, which was shrouded in black to keep anyone from peering inside.
A police motorcycle officer stopped in the late afternoon to watch the goings-on. The patrolman, who identified himself as Officer Chase, said he was making a routine check because there had been heightened activity around the area.
He asked if Holmes had given birth yet and, told she had, he drove off.
Meanwhile, a publicity blitz for the new Cruise movie "Mission: Impossible III," which was to begin Wednesday, has been put on hold. The actor has canceled all press appearances, according to Paramount Studios.
It was just about a year ago that Cruise's romance with Holmes became a worldwide sensation.
The actor hopped up and down on a couch during an interview with Oprah Winfrey as he professed his love.
"I can't be cool. I can't be laid-back," Cruise declared at the time. "Something happened and I want to celebrate it."
The antics were widely mocked but Cruise was unfazed and continued to display his affection for the star of TV's "Dawson's Creek."
The couple were first photographed together in Rome in April 2005. Two months later, Cruise announced he had proposed to Holmes atop the Eiffel Tower.
"Today is a magnificent day for me, I'm engaged to a magnificent woman," he said.
No wedding date has been disclosed.
Holmes was previously engaged to actor Chris Klein. Cruise, previously married to Mimi Rogers and Kidman, also had a high-profile romance with Penelope Cruz.
The birth further whetted the appetite for Hollywood's next high-profile pregnancy: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, rumored to be in the southwest African country of Namibia, are expecting the birth of their first child.

Twins for Melissa Etheridge, Partner
Etheridge and Michaels
Melissa Etheridge and partner Tammy Lynn Michaels are sharing some major family news with their fans. "We are thrilled to announce that Tammy is pregnant, and expecting our twins sometime around this fall," the singer and the actress say in a joint statement on Etheridge's official Web site.
"To answer the obvious question: We used an anonymous donor from a bank," the statement continues.
Etheridge, 44, and Michaels, 31, who has acted on TV's Popular and The L Word, married in Malibu in September 2003. Etheridge already has two children from a previous relationship with Julie Cypher: daughter Bailey Jean, born in 1997, and son Beckett, born in 1998.
The couple make reference to the children in the Web statement: "These are our first two babies conceived together, but not our first time mothering together," says the posting.
"For the past five years, we have been parenting two children from a previous time in Melissa's life. The twins will be a joyful addition to our loving home."
The message concludes by saying, "We are a blessed family, and ask that no gifts be sent. Any gifts we receive we will donate to a local women's shelter. However, well wishes are more than welcome!"
Bailey Jean and Beckett were conceived via artificial insemination courtesy of friend and rock legend David Crosby.
But last August Etheridge said that, while she and Michaels were planning to have a child together, this time the donor would not be Crosby. "Been there, done that," she told TV's Extra.
Etheridge was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2004 and underwent chemotherapy.
She made her post-chemo stage debut at last year's Grammys, where she stopped the show with her rendition of Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart" – and her bald head, a result of her treatment. Etheridge credited Michaels as being instrumental in her battle against cancer.
"When it was over, I came home to a bouquet that said 'In sickness and in health,' and she means it," the singer told Extra. "And the love and support of someone like that is worth all the money in the world."

Michael Jackson Is Working on New Album
Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson has returned to the studio and plans to release a new album next year for a record label owned by the son of Bahrain's king.
2 Seas Records, which is owned by Sheik Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, said Tuesday it had signed an exclusive recording agreement with Jackson, and the new album was tentatively scheduled for release in late 2007.
Jackson, 47, moved to the Gulf state soon after being acquitted of child molestation charges in California last year. The 33-island archipelago is about the size of Rhode Island.
"I am incredibly excited about my new venture and I am enjoying being back in the studio making music," Jackson said in a statement released in London on behalf of the Bahrain-based record label.
The label which is due to release Jackson's long-promised Hurricane Katrina benefit single, "I Have This Dream" said British music executive Guy Holmes had been named chief executive of the company. It said Holmes would oversee the making of the new album "and the management of Michael's other business interests."
Jackson has been plagued by financial problems since his trial.
Last month, he closed the house on his 2,600-acre Neverland Ranch estate in California, laying off most of the staff after agreeing to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in back wages to avoid a lawsuit by state labor officials.
Last week, he agreed to restructure his finances in a deal with Sony Corp., which shares ownership with Jackson of a valuable music catalog that includes the Beatles.
No details of that agreement were released, but earlier published reports said Jackson was negotiating a debt refinancing plan that would save him from bankruptcy but take away part of his share of the catalog.

Colin Farrell Settles Sex Tape Dispute
Colin Farrell
Colin Farrell can breathe easy his private parts will remain out of public view.
Farrell and ex-girlfriend Nicole Narain reached an amicable settlement in their legal battle over a sex tape they filmed three years ago, her attorney said Tuesday.
"We worked out our differences and settled. The terms are confidential, and both parties are happy," said Narain's attorney, Leodis Matthews.
Last month, Superior Court Judge Elihu Berle denied Narain's motion to dismiss the 29-year-old actor's lawsuit to prevent distribution of the tape.
Narain, a 2002 Playboy Playmate, had challenged Farrell's claim that they agreed to keep the 14-minute videotape private.
Instead, she alleged that she had the right to reproduce, market and distribute the tape under federal copyright law.
The former couple and their lawyers met Easter Sunday "of all days" to work out the agreement, Matthews said.
Calls made Tuesday to the office of Farrell's attorney, Paul Berra, were not returned.
Farrell, star of "Alexander" and "The New World," sued Narain and several others in July to halt distribution of the tape, citing damage to his career.
An injunction to temporarily block public release of the tape has since been in effect.
