Nicole Scherzinger has revealed she struggled with her image when she first joined the Pussycat Dolls.

The singer says she was uncomfortable with the band’s raunchy costumes and dance routines.

‘The image side of the Dolls was never seedy or sleazy but it was sexual,’ she says. ‘At first I wasn’t comfortable with that.

‘I’d always be worried about what other people were thinking about me. I was afraid of upsetting my family.'

Nicole, 30, says she was shy growing up because of her sheltered upbringing.

‘I grew up in a very strict, conservative family and my grandfather had his own church.

‘I suppose I grew up with lots of guilt. When I joined the Dolls it was a major turning point for me as all that guilt had to go,' she tells Live.

‘I had to reinvent myself and lose my insecurities. It took time for me to get my confidence.'

Nicole is currently dating Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, 23.

Lewis Hamilton showed his gratitude for girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger's support during his F1 championship battle by giving her a present that meant more than any expensive jewels – an incognito tour of his home town Stevenage.

He took the stunning brunette, a singer with American group the Pussycat Dolls, to see the local church and his old school before dropping in at home for a roast dinner cooked by his stepmum Linda.

The 23-year-old - who became the youngest world champion in the sport's history at a thrilling race in Brazil on Sunday - said Nicole had been "incredible". "I'm crazy about her. She brings out the good in me," was how the racing ace summed up his feelings for his Hawaii-born love.

"I wanted to show her where I grew up. We drove past where I was baptised, my old school… and old house. I have happy memories of the town – and I still go to the dentist in Stevenage," he added.

After seeing the sights the duo, who've been dating for a year, slipped unnoticed into a screening of Bond movie Quantum Of Solace at the local cinema.

Nicole also accompanied her guy as he received a hero's welcome from 1,000 workers at the McLaren team's headquarters in Surrey. Delighted Lewis was given a tickertape reception – and a toy model of a McLaren supercar bosses have promised him if he wins two more world titles.

Lewis Hamilton and Nicole Scherzinger headed to a Brazilian nightclub on Sunday to toast his Formula 1 glory.

The racing ace clinched the title in the last lap of the country’s Grand Prix on Sunday.

By finishing in 5th place, Lewis secured enough points to claim the championship ahead of rival Felipe Massa, who won the race.

To celebrate, Lewis let his hair down with Nicole, 30, at an exclusive party in his honour at the Sao Paulo Club, which kicked off just after midnight.

Now pals reckon the 23-year-old will propose to the Pussycat Dolls star.

‘He has never done things by halves,’ a source tells the Daily Star. ‘Nicole is a lot older than Lewis and she really wants kids.

'Now that the season is out of the way, I’d place a bet on an announcement of some kind soon.’

‘I think I’d rate myself as 5 out of 10 for my looks,’ she insists. ‘Right in the middle.’

Nicole is currently dating Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, 23.

But the Pussycat Doll, 30, wasn’t always popular with the opposite sex.

‘I used to be cripplingly shy,' she says. 'My grandfather was a preacher. I came from a very religious, strict upbringing in Hawaii and I wasn't very popular.

'Guys just wouldn’t go out with me.’

Singing helped Nicole develop a bit of self esteem.

'It wasn't until I got to high school that I began to blossom,' she tells Sugar. 'Even though I was shy, uncomfortable and lanky, my music brought me out of myself.'

The Formula One driving ace - who has been dating the Pussycat Dolls singer since they met at the MTV awards in Germany last year - dreams of one day storming the charts with his "good voice", and is confident Nicole can help him fulfil his ambition.

He said: "I do love music. It's something I'd love to be able to do some day. I don't believe that I have that talent, but I've had a whirl, like the millions of people who do.

"If I wasn't a driver, I'd try to do something that could take me somewhere."

Lewis hasn't ruled out the possibility of duetting with Nicole, or working with her group.

Nicole recently revealed the couple have already started working on material together.

She said: "He wrote a song for me and played it on the guitar.

"Mine is a very personal song. It's very in-depth and emotional - a real song that I know is going to connect with people."
