Daniel Craig: I have to look like I could kill someone

Actor loathes going to the gym five times a week

Daniel Craig admits he has to work hard to keep toned.

The James Bond star, 40, had to beef-up for the role of 007 and now maintains his beefcake physique.

‘I go to the gym fives days a week for 40 minutes at a time,’ he tells Weekend magazine.

‘I hate it but I have to do it, because apart from anything, James Bond has to look physically imposing.'

Daniel is the 6th actor to play James Bond and has starred as the spy in two films – Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace.

'I was big for Casino - that wasn't a mistake,' Daniel explains. 'It was a definite statement. This guy, when he takes his shirt off, should look like he could kill someone.'

Goofy Bond Daniel Craig

Daniel Craig is "downright goofy", says his 'Defiance' co-star Liev Schreiber.

The actor - who reprised his role as British agent James Bond in 'Quantum of Solace' - is nothing like his cool on-screen alter ego.

Liev explained to US TV show 'Entertainment Tonight': "We had a lot of fun, which was important because what we were doing was really quite sombre. Daniel Craig is far more entertaining and just downright goofy than I think most people think he is, and that's a result of that Bond thing he's doing."

The World War II movie, based on Nechama TecCast's book 'Defiance: The Bielski Partisans', tells the story of three Jewish brothers who join together in a bid to avenge the deaths of their closest relatives at the hands of the Nazis and end up helping countless other persecuted Jews in their quest.

Daniel, 40, recently revealed he likes being an actor because he can "dress up and show off".

He said: "You get into acting for the chase. It's dressing up and showing off. Let's be honest about it, at its basic level."

James Bond killed by crunch

Daniel Craig says there may not be another James Bond film "any time soon" - because of the credit crunch.

The 'Quantum of Solace' actor claims the world's current economic climate is taking its toll on movie producers, who may struggle to find the cash for the next instalment in the spy franchise.

He said: "As far as the next film is concerned, there is nothing scheduled. Economically the world is in quite a lot of trouble so who knows if we can afford to do another Bond movie any time soon?"

Despite his concerns, Craig would have no hesitation saving the world as 007 again.

He said: "I'm quite superstitious and I don't take anything for granted. I'd love to do another one."

Craig, 40, has revealed similar character traits between himself and his onscreen hero, saying he could also end someone's life to protect his loved ones.

He added to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "I would kill for my family, it's as simple as that. And my friends are the most important thing to me."

'Quantum of Solace' - the 22nd film in the series - is released this month.

Daniel Craig's surreal world

Daniel Craig has "lost touch with reality" since he began playing James Bond.

The actor - who reprises his role as the British spy in upcoming movie 'Quantum of Solace' - has struggled to cope with the intense interest in his private life since accepting the part in 2005.

He said: "By doing Bond I've lost touch with reality quite a lot. I've become a bit of a commodity and I've got security guys around me most of the time."

Daniel - who is dating American film producer Satsuki Mitchell -insists those closest to him keep him grounded and don't allow him to let fame go to his head.

He added to the Telegraph magazine: "Fortunately, I've got a great family and really close friends and they give me a hard time. But it's something I encourage them to do, because otherwise I'd disappear up my own a**e! I mean, for six months of the year, six days a week, all you're doing is Bond, all you're talking about is Bond. For nearly three months before that, you're doing pre-production on Bond, and when the movie comes out you're promoting Bond."

Daniel Craig: 'I'll Never Wear Swimming Trunks Again'

Daniel Craig has vowed never to wear tight trunks in a James Bond film again.

The 40-year-old hunk -- who sent pulses racing when he donned fitted blue swim shorts in a beach scene for his first film as the suave British spy in 2006's Casino Royale -- is refusing to squeeze into the sexy swimwear again.

He said, "I'm not going to put those trunks on ever again."

Craig also revealed he will not look as toned and muscular in new film Quantum of Solace because of a different exercise regime.

He said, "I trained differently this time."

A source added, "Even if he has spent less time in the gym and will be wearing more clothes, Daniel would be hard-pushed to disappoint his female fans."

A fan said, "Craig may say he is not as buff as last time but he still looks in pretty good shape."

Quantum of Solace, which also stars Judi Dench; Olga Kurylenko; and Jeffrey Wright, is released in the UK on October 31, and worldwide throughout November.

Daniel Craig: I got a whole set of injuries on James Bond set

Actor was in pain filming Quantum Of Solace

Daniel Craig was involved in a series of scrapes while filming the latest James Bond movie.

The actor says working on Quantum Of Solace was even more gruelling than shooting his first 007 movie Casino Royale.

‘The last time I pulled my Achilles tendon and was limping around a lot – I was in major pain a lot of the shooting,’ he says.

‘But now it’s a whole new set of injuries.

‘I’ve been even more physically involved in every aspect of this film, so accidents are bound to happen.’

Daniel, 40, was rushed to hospital twice during filming – once for gash on his face that required eight stitches and then for a broken finger.

But he says he was happy to push himself to the limit.

‘I thought if Casino Royale failed, I could just walk away and say: “OK, I screwed that up” and go off and try something else,’ he tells the Sunday Express.

‘Now we have to prove the last one wasn’t just a fluke. This is even more important to me than it was before.’

Daniel Craig's photo fury

Daniel Craig hates camera phones - because he can never go to the toilet in peace.

The James Bond star is happy to meet fans and sign autographs but draws the line at being photographed when he is trying to relieve himself.

Daniel said: "People try to take pictures of me when I'm having a p**s and it's not welcome and never will be.

"I have to keep hold of my sense of humour, because you can lose it very quickly and start retreating into yourself - then you can't go anywhere unless you're with armed guards."

Daniel has a history of griping about his fans.

The 'Quantum of Solace' star recently revealed he wears a false beard to the pub to stop people recognising him.

He said: "I wish, sometimes, I could just go sit and spend the afternoon in the pub. Well, you know, if I'm quiet and I wear a hat, a pair of sunglasses and a false beard, I could probably get away with it."

Craig: Sexy Olga is amazing

Daniel Craig is delighted with his gorgeous new Bond girls.

And the Cheshire-born star admitted that, despite praise for Casino Royale, playing James Bond still makes him nervous.

He revealed: “I’m no less nervous than I was.

“I don’t know if I’ll ever feel comfortable with it. You can’t say there’s less pressure when you make a $200 million Ddollar movie. The pressure is plain to see.

“We’ve got to make it as good as if not better than the last one and that’s all that matters.”

But Daniel refused to be drawn on the name of the new movie, currently dubbed Bond 22.

When asked if it would be the rumoured title The Lady Expects Too Much, he laughed and joked: “That’s quite good. I’ll write that one down!”

Celebrity News: Broody Daniel Craig

Daniel Craig wants to have more children.

The James Bond star - who already has a 15-year-old daughter, Ella, from his failed marriage to actress Fiona Loudon - would like to have a baby with his movie producer girlfriend Satsuki Mitchell when the pair's hectic work schedules calm down.

He said: "I'd like to have more children. I'm not planning to at this specific moment in time, but I'd like to.

"Life's up and down so it would not be possible right now, but if I get some down time, which will happen, then it's possible."

Craig, 39, and Mitchell have been dating since the beginning of last year, and he has previously described her as his "perfect Bond girl".

The actor has previously been romantically linked to his 'Layer Cake' co-star Sienna Miller, who dated his friend Jude Law.

Craig's second outing as James Bond, currently titled 'Bond 22', is due to begin filming in December.

He recently signed a contract with MGM to make another three films after shooting on the 'Casino Royale' sequel wraps.

The deal - which is expected to net Craig over £30 million - will incorporate a sliding salary range, dependant on how much each film makes at the box office and in merchandising.
